It was an electrifying night in the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The following preliminary fights kicked things off for the show:
Sarah Kaufman got the majority decision over Alexis Davis
Roger Bowling TKO’d Brandon Saling in round 2
Pat Healy submitted Caros Fodor by arm triangle in the third round
Ryan Couture TKO’d Conor Heun in the third as well
The main card continued, on Showtime, with half the fights making it to decision.
Josh Thompson edged out a unanimous decision against K.J. Noons
Kazuo Misaki squeaked out a split decision against Paul Daley
Lumumba Sayers submitted Scott Smith by way of guillotine choke in just over a minute of the first round
Ronaldo Souza also submitted Bristol Marunde in a triangle that was capitalized on in the third round
The main event, Tate vs Rousey, didn’t ever see the later rounds, as it was Rousey who found a way to put an end to Tate’s reign as champion. In an impressive display of technique Rousey secured an armbar that had the champion tapping out, unfortunately not before she received some damage to her arm.
For more footage on the armbar check out the youtube video posted on MMAMania.com posted below.
It looks as if Strikeforce will be putting on quite a show this Saturday March 3rd, 2012 from Nationwide Arena, in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Tune into Showtime to watch the fight live at 10pm ET & 7pm PT.
The fight cards main event will be champion Miesha ‘Takedown’ Tate vs. Olympic bronze medalist Ronda ‘Rowdy’ Rousey for the Strikeforce bantamweight championship. The bad blood between these two ladies seems to be boiling over, as can be seen in their weigh-in video below. When champion Miesha Tate was asked about why the hard feelings existed she replied that she was not happy about that it seemed Ronda was stepping over more deserving competitors.
Whatever the cause of the rivalry, don’t imagine that this is going to be a beauty contest. Both of these women are prepared to throw down and this fight definitely has appeal for more than one reason.
